Book Event: Come Meet the Authors of America’s Defense Meltdown

Now that you’ve finished our suggested reading list, we know that you’re dying to discuss everything we’ve suggested.  So you’ll be happy to know that POGO will be co-sponsoring a conversation with several of the authors of America’s Defense Meltdown on February 19th at 5:30 pm at the Stewart R. Mott House, 122 Maryland Ave., NE, Washington, D.C. (Capitol Hill area) to discuss the decades-long and continuing challenges to creating an effective and accountable national defense.

The event is also sponsored by the Fund for Constitutional Government, the Center for Defense Information, Taxpayers for Common Sense, and the Institute for Policy Studies.

POGO Executive Director Danielle Brian will moderate the discussion with:

  • Winslow T. Wheeler who spent 30 years working for Republican and Democratic senators and the Government Accountability Office (GAO) on defense budget issues.
  • Thomas Christie, who has five decades of experience in defense acquisition positions, involving weapons testing and program evaluation. Christie retired in 2005 as the Pentagon’s most senior career civilian official.
  • Pierre M. Sprey, who worked with a small number of brilliant colleagues to design and procure some of the most successful weapons in Pentagon history.

Please RSVP to Winslow Wheeler at or to Suzanne Ostrofsky at  We hope to see you there!
