I belong to one of the first generations where environmental consciousness was taught–I knew never to use an aerosol can, and learned about the greenhouse effect in my catechism classes (and I’m a Roman Catholic from the Midwest, not some Berkley hippie like Smallberg). Our three R’s (and since we’re a more progressive generation, everything really does start with “R”) were Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle.
The Air Force isn’t at the forefront of green thinking, but they are starting to get into the act. In January, Arnold Air Force Base in Tennessee won a recycling award, and a press release yesterday shows that they’re seeing the value of “Reuse”. Now if only they would learn to reduce troubled programs like the F-22…
